Volunteer With Us — Evaluation, ESG & Business Support

Structured volunteer placements in monitoring and evaluation, business support, sustainability, communications and research. Training first, real deliverables after.

Where you can volunteer

Monitoring & Evaluation

Our Young & Emerging Evaluators pathway — learn evaluation by working on real evaluations, with someone reviewing what you produce.

Business Support

The practical side of helping Canadian businesses get registered, stay compliant and put their books in order.

Sustainability & ESG

Sustainability reporting that has to stand up to scrutiny — SDG alignment, emissions inventories, assurance readiness.

Communications

Making the work legible — writing, design and the channels that carry it.

Research

Desk research underpinning evaluations, business plans and sector work.

Common questions

Is this paid?

No — these are volunteer placements. What you get instead is real work on live engagements, structured training, someone reviewing your output, a certificate, and a reference that describes what you actually did rather than that you turned up.

How many hours do I need to give?

We agree it with you, and we would rather you commit to a few hours consistently than to a lot and then disappear. Most volunteers do something in the range of four to eight hours a week, arranged around study or a job.

I am a student with no professional experience. Is that a problem?

No. The streams are built for exactly that, and the onboarding course assumes no prior exposure. What matters is that you finish what you start and say something early when you cannot.

What is the YEE pathway?

Young & Emerging Evaluators — the term used across the evaluation profession for people early in an evaluation career. Our monitoring and evaluation stream is built around it, and connects to the wider VOPE ecosystem we work in.

Can this lead to paid work?

Sometimes, and it has, but we will not promise it. Treat it as experience, training and a credible reference. If a paid role opens and you have done good work, you are an obvious person to approach.

I am outside Canada. Can I still volunteer?

For most streams yes — the work is remote and much of our evaluation practice is international. Business support is the exception, since it turns on Canadian filing and compliance rules.
